domain problems

    I am currently running windows 2000 advance server (dns,dhcp,routing is all installed). but when I try to join my laptop(running winxp pro) to the domain I get this error message > The following error occurred attempting to join the domain "...." > The specified server cannot perform the requested operation <

    I need help asap

    Is any one here ?
    heres some info on the network......

    While attemting to join (the domain) I disabled my firewall(zonealarms)on the server ( the
    laptop doesnt have a firewall.
    On the server which has two nic's the nic which dns,dhcp,routing etc. is binded to is connected to a swicth, which the laptop is also connected to(the swicth).
    the laptop tcp/ip configuration is this> obtain an ip address- auto, obtain dns server address- auto

    you need to click on the link called Try This... it links to microsoft's website and shows you how to set up a domain
