Hey guys i remember you guys had a thread about this before, but thing is my friend told me i need to have a social insurance number (canada) or social security number (states) to get a credit check, anyways its because i have a credit card and im doing really well, i always thought i had to pay the whole credit card before the end of the month, and one time (this month) i made it go into the negitive (good thing) so im pretty happy, so is there anyway i can check my credit score cuz i dont have a sin or ssn number. thanks in advance

I don't know how it is in Canada, but everyone has a social security number ... eventually ... even if you are not a citizen. If you can work, you have one. Or am I totally off here?

If in the states, you are given one free official credit check per year. This can be done without having to sign up for some service that tries to make you a subscriber for monthly credit monitoring.

Canada's credit system is completely unrelated to America's credit system, so you'd probably have to find some Canadian specific site. To be honest, I'm not all that familiar with Canada's system of credit, so I can't get any more specific than that.

I know for a fact that these American sites are of no use to Canadians (and all non-Americans, for that matter). I worked in banking for six years.

I havea membership with creditkeeper (http://www.mycreditkeeper.com/). It has daily monitoring and shows you monthly updates of your credit report and scores from all the credit beuros. It will also give your medical records and driving records. I cost 10.00 a month ..

You are here on a Student Visa from what I've gathered Mafia. You can work on Campus, that's it.

You have no credit standing here in Canada. :) Don't forget to look me up next jaunt up the 401 to Montreal.

That's awesome Jonny - I have been looking for one that monitors all three, and that's the cheapest I found. Thanks :)

Not paying your balance in full does not necessarily hurt your score. Consistently having a large balance and paying the minimum does. Paying off a significant debt in a timely manner will actually help your score.

Actually I needed to find a service like that, and I remembered this thread :lick:

    Usually it's $25+ for all 3 bureaus, that's a great deal :D
