.co.uk?

    Why do all UK webites end with .co.uk instead of just .uk? Is it because they didn't want to fall behind the US (.com)?

    .co.uk is for COmpanies (COrporations?) in UK. It's just the rules set up buy the .uk domain. For instance (until a while ago) the .se domain had some similar rules too, like personal sites had to use the .pp.se domain.

    .com isn't really the USA domain. .com is a general domain for companies. .us is the USA domain afaik but I've never seen it used.

    .co.uk - for commercial enterprises - the largest SLD in the UK

    .me.uk - for for personal domains

    .org.uk - for non - commercial organisations

    .plc.uk and .ltd.uk - for use by Registered companies only

    .net.uk - for the network providers

    .sch.uk - for schools
