Hi

If your XP has the Devils Own key, you will be able to use the auto-update feature, but you can't install the service pack.

I peeked in here and was like HUH? why would someone wanna use the auto update with devils own copy of XP.. i looked through there privacy statement crap and it says right in it it gives your serial to em they may say no identifiable info is given besides that but what about the logged ips lol

I think if you copy the OEM pid and paste it with Tweak-XP over the Devils Own key, that it might work. I am not 100% sure (never tried it), but I think it is possible. The biggest advantage you get is that you will be able to install the SP1.

OK thanks.........I'll try it

Copying the ID from Tweak-XP

This technique will simply not work, the five digits either end of the ID are written when you enter the product key, changing your ID using Tweak XP is NOT a solution, you will still get an error message when sp1 reboots. The only answer is to enter a new valid product key and let the ID write itself. There are several ways to enter a valid product key depending on your situation,1 activation dialogue, 2 update from within Windows or 3 a repair with your computer booting from the Win XP CD, all these options will allow you to enter a new product key and not interfere with installed programs or your custom settings.

The key you use must be specific to the version of Windows XP you are installing, they are NOT interchangeable.

:;)

Here's how to change your existing (blacklisted, perhaps!) key to a new one:

1. Run regedit and go to: HKey_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\Current Version\WPAEvents, on the right double click on "oobetimer" and change at least one digit of this value to deactivate windows.

2. Choose run from start menu and type in this command:
%systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a to get the activation screen and go to the second option which is activate by phone.

3. In the new screen choose the option to change product key, and type in the new product key (Corporate one only).

4. Close that window, reboot your system and enter the command in step 2 for the second time to verify your activation , you should see "windows is already activated"

Of course to do this entire procedure you need to have a new, legitimate key to replace your old key. This is a subject for a whole new thread!

Any of the SP crew still out there?
