I have a compaq laptop running XP Professional.
I cannot play some of my avi, mpg etc multimedia files. Nothing wrong with my audio. I have installed Nimo v5 codec, media player codec 8.0, divx 5.02, but still useless.
1) media player v7 says "Cannot play back the file. The format is not supported."
2) media player v8 said the same thing,
3) media player v9 for XP said the same thing, so I did a system restore to wmp v8 and install media player codec 8.0, still the same.
4) I wanted to downgrade to wmp v7 but I can't uninstall wmp on XP!
5) divx player v5 says not divx file, cannot play
6) winamp 3 doesn't do anything, doesn't say anything
7) media jukebox which I thought could play any file type, just didn't bulge.
But a friend can play them ok on win98 wmp maybe v7 or v8.
Strange why nobody seems to have this problem. Can anybody tell me what OS, player and codec do they use? So perhaps I could get the exact codec to try. I'm suspecting the players
and codec don't work well with XP? Worst drastic action would be to change OS, which I hope not to do.
All your help is appreciated.
