what can i use to open a .avi file?
Windows Media Player should already be associated with it. Just double-click on the file and WMP should open and the movie should start. Alternatively, there are many other 3rd party media players you can find on the Internet.
"cannot play back file. the format is not supported."
you need the nimo pak get this build as the newest build screws up any Xvids you might d/l
