I set up my computer and it was working fine. The graphics card was set on AGP x4, so I decided to see what would happen if I put it on AGP x8 since my motherboard says it can support it. Well when I restarted my computer after the windows loading screen my monitor goes in to standby mode and doesn’t come out of standby mode. I left it running for 10min and still didn’t come out of standby mode. Before I had it on AGP 4x it would go in to standby mode for about 10seconds max then switch back on and I would be at my password screen. I’m running windows XP pro. I try to enter SAFE mode to fix the problem and that works fine I get in to windows using Safe mode but once I'm in I don’t have the option to change it back to 4xAGP anywhere. Any tips on how I can fix this and why it wont let me use it on 8xAGP. I am using cat 9 hot fix driver for the card.
Thanks

thats odd... agp 4x/8x should not really be causing problems...

as is... you have a neglible performance difference between 4x and 8x agp so you are not really losing anything there...

there are some motherboards that the card has minor issues with... odd the top of my head I can't think of a reason why you are getting the problem you are...

have you tried disabling smartgart and trying that ?

Nope haven't tried that yet. How do you disable it? I was hoping that the smartgart would fix the problem but it does sound like its the thing causing the problem since it cant find the right settings to give me.

afaik in the ati driver dl section there is a smartgart uninstaller that you can dl separately...

ok i think i fixed the problem but now i have a new one. I had in the bios 4xAGP so i set it to 8xAGP and i think that fixed it but now it just auto restarts the computer after it loads windows. I remember reading somewhere how to fix it but i cant find it anymore so if anyone knows please post.
thanks

what psu do you have?

seems to be a problem with not enough power being fed to the setup...

I just reinstalled windows and all the drivers. It works fine now. I'm not sure why it worked this time the only thing diffrent was that i downloaded XP SP1.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
