Acrobat problems

I know nothing of Mac's, I'm posting this question on behalf of a friend. Sorry if its dumb.

She's trying to make a PDF. She creates her document in Quark and apparently needs to send it to an Acrobat printer so she can make it into a PDF. Seems dumb to me but anyways. Whenever she does this the document prints rather than saves, and it does it poorly, pictures and text missing, bad alignment you name it. Any help would be great, just make sure you dumb it down enough so I can understand what you're talking about.

She defiantly selecting Adobe PDF printer? Is Acrobat all up to date? Is Distiller all working ok?
