    ha...the earth slows downs .83 seconds a year.

    thus there are leap seconds.

    Earth slows at about 2 milliseconds per day. After 500 days, the difference between the Earth rotation time and the atomic time is 1 second.

    they inserte leap seconds from time to time (so to speak)

    I think I just felt one, it was painful, and to think we get them under every two years

    i think i felt one last night ... i was in the pub and someone said "your round" ... leap second effect meant that someone else paid ... i only suffered momentary pain ... but it was all pretty bizzarre non the less.
