    the solution was actually quite simpel :eek: Both disks showed up in the registry in hklm\system\controlset(and controlset001 and controlset002)\control\sessionmanager\dos devices removed both entries, disks are gone! Thanks for all the suggestions anyway!

    and when I try to remove the systemprotection for these last two I get this: An unexpexted failure in the propertiespage has occurred The syntaxis of the filename, mapname of volumename is wrong (0x8007007b) close the propertiespage and try again when I hit cancel, the drives are gone...

    Found it; There are 3 "C disks", one system disk (where I have installed windows) and two other with the comments: (c) "Fail" (lack?) and "enabled" I cannot remove these last two. See attachment

    How can I see if the drives are in system protection? And they are not listed in the result of bcdedit /enum all....:mad:

    Thanks for your suggestion. I reconnected the drives, loaded a command prompt, types diskpart and then list volumes .... see attachment for the result....

    Tried this too, the disks are no network drives... they are listed as "other" in explorer (my computer)

    Unfortunately these driveletters do not show up in diskmanagement. So I cannot remove them either...

    Tried this, thing is these disk are ext3 formatted to use with Linksys NSLU2. To see these disks in Win7 I had to install a driver. When I reinstalled this driver yesterday I could not assign the driveletters L and U because they are already in use...

    Good tip, hadn't thought of this yet. But .. did it like you said, removed all the items in devicemanager that might point to the two local disks, rebooted ... they are still there....:devious:

    I already looked in the entries but did not find the drivernames there. Will try to delete the entries, see what will happen... Update: deleted the entries, rebooted, the disks are still there....

    Thanks but I see no L or U disk there.... (also not when opening the regkeys)
