XP wants to remove ScanJet 4200C

I just installed XP Pro for my dad and got the most recent XP software for this scanner from HP's website. The install went great and the scanner works like a charm. The only problem right now is that XP seems to think the scanner needs to be removed. In the system try there is an icon with a bit of harware and a green arrow facing left and down above the hardware. The icon is for 'safely remove hardware'. I can't seem to get rid of this. Anyone know why this is happening and what can be done?

thanks!

Hiya...

That icon is there for a reason..and a good one.. it allows you to SAFELY "Eject" or "Remove" a hot-swappable device..usually stemming from a USB port... its essentially there as a convenience.. issues can arise if you just decide to unplug a USB device while windows is running.. it basically un-mounts the running services for that device..allowing you to remove it or swap another device..thats all..

good luck!!

Thanks for the info. Problem is it shouldn't be there in the first place. I decided to remove the device and allow it to be redetected and all is good.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
