XP vs 2000 on an older laptop

Greetings,

Which would run faster on a Celeron 400 MHz / 256 MB / 6 GB laptop: XP Pro or 2000 Pro? I've read threads that discuss stability and compatibility issues, but what I'm interested in is performance (considering its slow speed, I want to squeeze as much as possible out of the laptop).

Provided I turn off XP's themes (and any superfluous services), would it boot/run significantly faster than 2000? Surely it has more "overhead" and has a larger footprint on the hard drive, but how much more optomized for speed is XP than 2000?

Thanks for your time...

I would use 2k just because of the space you would save with the OS itself.......

I have had only slow ups with a lower spec. systems (even with msstyles turned off) yes it may boot faster, but that would be it really, I would save XP for a desktop PC (if you have a desktop?) and use 2k for your laptop, 2k is an great OS.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
