Dear All,
After hearing the problems with installing XP's SP1, I am having second thoughts about installing it on my brand new built system (mentioned earlier in another thread)

Should I go for it? What about IE 6.0 SP1? Will it cause problem also?

Your work area is too clean. Install sp1 & it will fix that right up.

ps sp1 hasn't given me any grief.

Well I would say install it before you do too much tweaking to your system and before you have too many installed programs. I remember somebody on here suggested that the best way to install the XPSP was to do after a clean install of the OS.
Well that is my opinion

Cannibal Corpse, if you install the SP, let us know how
it worked for you, I'm still undecided since I read
more posts saying it messed things up.

BTW Cannibal Corpse, did you save the original boxes
for all your electronic equipment? In a move it comes
in real handy to pack up the rack system. I can tell
you don't live in "earthquake country" as your stereo
is piled up on your speaker. :D

Installing SP1

Even though a lot of people are posting here that they have experienced problems after installing SP1, don't you think that really they are in the minority?

You just don't hear from the people who have haven't had any problems. For every person that has had problems there are probably many many more who have not but you just don't hear from them.

Just plan for the worst before you begin. Create a restore point, backup your system if possible, and most importantly opt for the archiving of files for the uninstall option when you run the SP1 update. This is extremely important if you want to be able to uninstall it! Yes, it takes up space on your hard drive, but later after you are satisfied that things are running okay you can delete it.

I wouldn't do it. Although some Windows updates are useful, others have at times, proved to trash a lot of things; why, I don't know, maybe software conflicts, whatever. My Windows XP Pro runs just fine at the state it is right now, without Service Pack1. If you have problems...maybe you should install it. I would create a system restore point, and back stuff up. Really back stuff up. Better yet, instead of using a system restore point, that sometimes does not work, use Roxio's Goback, that's rather handy I would say. Good Luck :)

What are the "cons" for not installing the SP ? I took the
xp-dite patch from www.grc.com and have been taking all the
hot patches from microsoft. Both my PC's have been fine
and I also enjoy completely uninstalling programs that came
with the two computers that I hear you can't do once you
take the SP.

I'm scared to take the SP, LOL I hate computer problems. :)

YES, it will COMPLETLY RUIN your system, and you will have to go buy another one

What did you expect anyones answer to be? no?

If you even have to ask this question, you should be running MSDOS 6.5....

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
