My PC automatically restart whenever I defragment my primary partition(The drive in which i install Win XP Pro). Can someone help me with this prob?

This happened to me. It ended up that my hard drive was going bad. I ran the diagnositc provided by the manufacturer and sure it enough it was bad.

Got a new HD and the reboot problem went away.

nope... I'm using the built-in defragmenter.. BTW, i just bought this hard disk

The hard disk that went out on me was less than a month old. Go to the manufactures home page and download their diagnostic utility and see what the results are. Takes less than 5 minutes....

Try running the defrag in safemode, this should disable all background progs and enable the defrag to run without any interruptions, also Try - Right Click 'My Computer'/Properties/Advanced/Start Up and Recovery. Remove the tick from System Failure/Automatic Restart. This should enable you to see exactly which prog is causing the prob by giving you a Error Message.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
