XP PRO Password Request

I changes my Motherboard this week to Gigabyte 7VAXP Ultra.
Having previously loaded XP Pro corporate version ,with no problem and no password request on installation.

This time however I was locked out, with an administrator password request after reinstallation.

As this prevented me accessing the desktop, I had to substitute another hard drive to load the system with XP Home, and then format the other h/d to gain access to reuse it.

Theres no way to boot to the repair function it seems, when the system password override prevents any forward access!

What stage did I miss on installation, that would have prevented the password activation, which I had never used before?

XP Home in contrast, requests user name(s) but no generalsystem password towards the end of the installation.

to disable ALL passwords, try this:

1) open case
2) remove small disc-like battery from mobo
3) after about 5 minutes, put it back in
4) boot machine

hope this works...

Thanks KOKO I will try that on return from hols and advise outcome

If I am not totally wrong removing the mobo battery will just clear the BIOS password and revert all BIOS settings to the default.

you'd be better off changing the jumpers for the cmos, to clear it, removing the battery takes some time to take effect.

yoyo is right though, it will clear the cmos to original settings, and have no effect on a windows administrative password...

Call MicroSquish and pay for a license. Or get a legit copy of XP Pro. :D

What you are asking for is to get around a password protection on an illegal version of XP.

THANK YOU :)

Thanks for the replies.
Message to Gonaads .
It is a legit copy of XP

XP Pro Corporate??? Only if you own a company and bought the licenses.

what...from what i read...this has nothing to do..with BIOS Password or resetting the CMOS...and what you've been told is silly...if its XP asking for a password....just hit enter...leaving it blank..see if that will get you to the desktop....apparently these few must be running windows 98 and have no knowledge of XP....during the install you are asked to create a password....Administrator is put in by default...or left blank...or custom made...by you.....so try

Administrator or Leave Blank...if it don't work...then you can just reinstall the Corporate Version Again...with No Problems

When you install XP it never asks for a password, just a user name. So the password is probably blank and if you havent tried it yet you should smack yr head on a wall 50 times :p

[voice=Yoda]Dodgy this thread is yeasss, dodgy, path to the dark side it is[/voice]

Geez there are a lot of dots in this post. And by the way, read the replies again and you will see that nobody is trying to help RogerPhillis clear the BIOS password. I'm also pretty sure that yoyo has used XP before. :p

RogerPhillis, if your Corporate install of XP is indeed licensed, then just call Microsoft and get an answer from them. There's no helping the fact that this topic is a bit shady, due to the fact that there are thousands of "Devil's Own" copies floating around the world.

to: gonaads & jrock ... it asks for an administrative password.. even when you dont set one up.

to: RogerPhillis: i had the same problem, but just used a Windows 98 Boot Disk to format. you can find one for download on the web. just put the bootdisk in, type Format C: and wait. then install the WINXP CD into the cd drive, and install.. it will ask (if its not the full version) for a different version of windows, pop in your old Win98 CD, or Win95, click OK, then reinstall your WinXP CD.. continue with the directions

hope this is clear. good luck.

The reason for all the blah blah is because RogerPhillis said it was XP Pro Corporate. aka Devil's Own... aka illegal, not legit, warez, etc...

We shouldn't even be discussing it to begin with. Plus it should not need an administrators password if none was typed in when it ask to create one.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have just returned from hols.
Id like to think that after installing Windows95/98/Me/XP in total about 50 times or so , I would have tried all the obvious answers.
The drive had been formatted in NTFS therefore not accessible via a Win 98 boot disc to format as mentioned.
All possibilities suggested to bypass the password screen had been tried, so no headbanging necessary on my part,.......and the drive was truly locked so that any type of reboot/format /reinstall was not possible.
The pro disc had been used one month before with no problems.
As mentioned a"grey area" so will close this discussion.
I just attract these type of problems.!

Thanks again for responses.

Gonaads, I have a legit copy of XP Pro Corporate, and it is not a devil's own. I have a license through my company because I do alot of vpn time. So he could have a legit copy.

Good point... But it is still hard to know when someone asks if they are legit or not.

If I was him, I would reformat and reinstall...

But look on this site to see if any of the info there helps...

just bang the cd in and it'll boot - no need for win98 floppy disks an all that lark.

has your XP corp been updated to SP1 RogerPhillis?
