Have a Pro CD coming but I already have Home installed. Can you install Pro over Home?

its best to do a clean install

Just wondering why it is necessary to do a clean install?

I had home edition and upgraded to pro, and just did the upgrade and not the clean install, and everything worked out okay. just seeking an explanation on what could have gone wrong for future reference.

This question is "all-known" so shouldn't post it . But the answer is : formating drive can clean everything , somebody that uses more programs after an upgrade can remain also some temp files or registry keys that can simply crash the system . You was lucky .

I don't think "luck", had anything to do with it, they are both basically the same os, pro just had some features home edition doesn't.

I agree that in most cases a clean "install", is the best option, but it's not always necassary.

Just my "opinion".

Cosmin, not sure what your cryptic question is but thanks to all for the replies.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
