XP PRO constantly freezing....

XP Pro.....after any of the accounts on the computer leave for around 20 minutes or so, when the user attempts to use the computer again, everything has frozen up. Every single time, have to restart the computer. VERY FRUSTRATING!!!
Screensavers are now disabled
Power settings are all disabled
Temperatures are good
I have not flashed the bios or checked the ram yet....
any suggestions besides thoose?

Had similar problem. Flashing the bios cured mine.

Besides those: Everything up to date with Windows Updates, drivers etc.? What are the specs on the machine in question? Was it an upgrade or a clean install?

sorry about leaving out the specs
1.4 GHZ Athlon, Geforce 2 MX, 512 MBs of DDR Ram all on an ASUS motherboard
Clean Install of XP Pro (first OS i installed on the computer...)
All the drivers are updated and windows updates are all taking care of.
I will probably end up doing the BIOS flash, just curious to know if it could be anything else so i don't waste my time or break my computer

Which Asus MB? I have A7A266. You can get the latest bios for your board here. Make sure you follow the directions carefully if you haven't done it before.

r u using any of the nortons 2002 products eg : utilities or anti virus?
if so have you done a windows update and applied the redirector patch?

if u have then thats ur problem possibly
u may have to uninstall any or all nortons products then go to an earlier restore point where the patch wasnt installed
then reinstall the nortons gear making sure u never install the redirector patch from windows update

no norton products, or anti-virus problems...those things cause too many problems i'll take my chances with the cruel world of the internet (and have already paid multiple times....)

oh well, looks like the bios flash...thanks guys!
