XP not recognised by MS - anyone else getting this ??

Just went to windows update and got this

I also went to hotmail when Messenger told me I had mail and it said that my browser (IE6) was not necessarily compatible (I need IE4 and up) and would I like to continue anyway ?

Yes, I think it has.
I just went to install XP Styles and it said that maybe my operating system was incompatible or the wrong version as well !!!

It's obviously my machine, but I wonder what. I haven't installed anything out of the ordinary that probably people on this site haven' t installed as well.

So you just keep laughing while you can, it maybe something that will affect others too.

heh that sucks,, maybe try a reinstall of xp? you using home or pro?

Sounds to me like you got your security set really high, or your firewall is doing an excellent job. Try adding www.windows.com to any whitelists you have and see what you see.

Have you rebooted yet? =) Sometimes that just makes all the difference.

Thanks Lonman, excellent pointer !!

Turns out that it was Naviscope that I installed from a news item on here a week or two ago.
Got into my hidden Icons and I completely forgot about it.

I thought I'd installed it with default settings, guess I'll have to revisit that area.
