XP Home creates Default user......

I've had this problem 3 or 4 times in the past few months. When I start XP Home, everything looks fine, until I log in under my user name(which there is only one...ME). After putting in my password it takes 2-3 minutes to start XP. Once it finally stops processing, I lose all my screen icons, Themes, and wallpaper. When I try to start a program (lets say Kazza) it will act like this is the first time using it, and wanting to set me up a new user. This happens on most of my programs. When I look in the users directory, I see my name, but now there is a DEFAULT folder. XP will not let me delete it. I have used restore to fix this twice, and I'm tired of doing this. Can anyone shed some light on this problem? Or is this a common issue? I like XP alot, but this really pi$$es me off.

Thanks

DEFAULT is the profile that Windows uses to create any new accounts. You can not delete it.

Login as administrator. Delete your profile. Recreate the user. See if this helps.

If you are constantly losing all of your settings then it is most likely a profile issue not saving on shutdown/logoff. If it was saving all your settings and then suddenly stopped, I would first scan for virii. If a thorough scan does not find any virii (I would recommend using at least 2 scanners just to make sure) then as stated above, best to create a new profile as your current profile has most likely been corrupted. Not sure if system restore can/will fix this, but it may be worth a try if you have a restore point prior to the problem. If all else fails, there's always format/reinstall.

I agree with Jahya in that your profile is probably corrupt. I've seen this happen before and it was fixed by deleting that profile and creating a new one. It's kind of a hassle, but it should alleviate your problem.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
