XP com port problems...

Hi Folks,
I have a couple of interfaces that work fine under win98, but just refuse to play with Xp... what does Xp do differently with the ports ? And is there a way to remedy this ?

I have tried "compatabilty mode..."
I KNOW the hardware is ok, coz I have a spare HDD with 98...

Ideas please ?

I think you guys are barking up the wrong tree... its not possible to find my interfaces in a compatabilty list, as most are "home grown" Its definatly the way XP uses its ports... ALL the hardware works fine with 98, its just XP where I have problems, point is - what is different ? and can you get XP to put its ports back to "normal"...

I have interfaces for:
Radio transciever (to backup memories etc...)
Scanner ditto
PDA
Cellphone data cable

Non of which work "properly" under XP, when the odd one does run, its VERY intermittant...

windows 2000 and winXp have better security with those ports (parrallel and serial) so they don't work the same as win98 or winME. Normally under win98 you can program a program to make it send signal down to the data pin easily but it is not allowed under 2000 and XP.

since that could be a data leak. People did steal data that way..
