XP and program install

I have recently done a clean install of XP Professional. Everything went to plan so I believed. The HDD formatted as NTFS. When I try and install some software, I find that the installation will not progress past the PC findingthe CD. No installation program commences etc. The latest I tried to install was Quicken (new version). I can read the disk through explorer but the installation will not run. When I look at the file (install) it indicates a
16bit file. Would this be the problem?
Has any one had this problem or an idea how to rectify. I have a little knowledge but am stumped on how to fix it other than
reformatting at fat32.
Regards
Dave

make sure the security permissions are set to allow you to write to that directory

thanks - there are no security permissions for what I want (or I can't find them). I am trying to run a setup file from an application CD for a new program.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
