What is the native executable file type for linux ? If there is one...

Windows uses file types explicitly (.exe, .ppt, .doc...) however EVERYTHING in unix/linux is a file. including folders, devices... anything can be executable, you have to give it permissions via "chmod 755 filename" where the 3 numbers in the middle are what makes it executable or not.

you can specify which programs run which files, like when you click on a asdf.doc, it will open your office software..
