I have a Dell Dimension 8100 with an NEC -NR7800a burner and WinXP Pro..

been burning disks for months without any problems! now all of the sudden when I put a blank disk in, it keeps spinning and spinning and sees no blank disk present in the drive..
I use Nero burn, when I try and burn something, the disk just gets kicked out and it says "insert an empty medium to write to"

this started happening to me last week but the windows update "hot fix for cd burners" fixed it (temporarly) but now it's back..

any ideas how to fix this? I have so much stuff I need to back up 🙁

system restore back to a point before the problem started 😉

also u got to watch the language 🙁

well... did'nt work, just tried it (at least now I am familiar with the system restore.. very cool feature!) same problem.. drive sounds like it trying to read contents of blank cd buit never sees it

ugh.. any other suggestions?😕

How old is the cd burner? try re-installing that hot fix, other than that I'm stumped, I'll think about it 😕

You say it's just spinning up and spinning down? That sounds pretty broken to me. Does it read normal CD:s?

fixed it with a totally diffrent brand of cd..

thanks for the replies
