Wireless software router?

Hey :)

Im looking for a software router, as I can't afford a hardware one at the moment. I'm trying to create a 'peer to peer' wireless network between two wireless cards so that I can share my internet connection. (Is it even possible?)

I basically need the windows equivilent of the mac software base station.

Does such a thing exist?

Thanks in advance for any help :)
Tom.

PS. Im trying to get the network running between an XP and Mac OS X machine, to complicate things further ;)

Easy! XP has a built in software router, ICS (Internet Connection Sharing). Just enable ICS on the interface connected to the Internet. The settings for ICS is in the same place as the settings of the XP firewall. Then just use DHCP on the Mac to determine the IP. Then you're done.

I've tried using ICS and failed :(

If I simply setup ICS as if I had a router, the PC will only act as a client rather than a server.

If I use ad hoc mode, both see each other, but I am unable to share my internet connection (I don't believe it is possible in ad hoc mode).

Thats why I'm after a software router :D

Unless anybody has any other alternatives...?

My friend has the client computers on Infrastructure mode and the server on ad-hoc mode, they all just have standard wireless cards and it shares fine :D

No, set up ICS so YOU are the router.

- Go to your network connections
- Right-click on your Internet connection > Properties
- Advanced tab. Here you can enable Internet Connection Sharing.

Done.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
