Just wondering, what is this "svchost"? when I hit CTRL ALT DEL and check out my processes, there's like 5 copies of it running. Why does windows do this?

Windows 2000/XP only. SVCHOST is a generic process which acts as a host for other processes running from DLLs. Depending on the configuration of your system there may be more than one instance of SVCHOST showing in the Task List.

Recommendation :
An integral part of the operating system, leave alone.

Where I got that from:

there all for diffrent applications, i cannot remember what though, all windows services, some not important, some will invoke a reboot if shut.
