my dad has installed WinDVD 5 Platinum on to a 1700MHz Celeron, 128Mb DDR

it plays dvds seamlessly but his sound doesn't work? the driver is installed and updated and all other sound works, its just WinDVD 5?

any ideas why?

I've never used WinDVD before, but some other apps I've used in the past for some reason have the Audio track set to disabled by default and therefore you're required to select Audio > Track1 from the menu.

As I say, I've never used WinDVD.. do all the options/preferences appear to be in order?

Check the settings and make sure it is either set to directsound or wave rather than spdif etc.

well, sound is enabled i know that much....

EP i will get see if the setting is correct in a few moments

nope it jerks and sound then dissapears :(

more specs:
Win2k Pro SP4
17ooMhz Celeron
128Mb DDR
20Gb HDD

windvd plays it and doesn't jerk but no sound :(

uninstall winDVD then reinstall power DVD, i read there can be a codec conflict if both are installed

A conflict would occur if you had both installed and then tried to use their codecs in wmp, but wouldn't in the applications themselves.

What audio card do you have?

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
