Windows XP professional will not resolve DNS

I have had a problem where connecting to the internet on a windows xp profressional machine, the machine will not resolve dns. The correct servers have been assigned by the dhcp server, and pinging ip addresses as well as going to web sites by ip works. Trying to launch the nslookup command gives an error saying that the server name could not be found. Windows xp firewall is disabled, and there are no other firewalls installed on the machine. I have also tried stopping and restarting the DNS Client service in services. No luck there. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Krepfle you bum muhahaha... still cant do your job i see. :D

anyway... do you has dns numbers in the dns fields on the machine in networking?? If so take them out. log off and log back into the machine. Also copy and paste or email me the info when you do an ipconfig /all at the command prompt.

If nslookup is throwing you an error it means that either you have the wrong servers listed or they are currently down. Can you ping the nameservers?

btw the DNS client service only affects 2 things, DNS name caching and local network names like for active directories and such. It is safe to disable, even on a normal home network.
