Windows XP hangs

I just done a clean install of Windows XP Pro on my new PC and whenever I shut it down the system hangs at the 'Saving system settings' screen

Is there a fix?

Any clues in the event viewer logs?

Application, Security or System Log? I have errors in the App and System Logs but I never used the Event Viewer before

Look in the application and system logs. highlight either and then double click on any of the events to see a description. Look for things like program hangs and such.

in the applications log, all the errors refer to PerfNet and the errors has occured around 14 times.

What is this? Chk the screenshot.
