I get the message (windows write delayed)
How can I get rid of this?

when i had that problem it was 2 things, 2 different times. one was too many apps trying to write to the hdd, and the other time was a bad cable or the ide cable being too long like 36 inches.

That happens when the partition or the HDD runs out of space. Also, if you are saving to a network, and the network source gets shut off or interuppted, you'll get these messages too. Could also be a sign of your HDD going bad, although most newer drives have technology built in to warn you off this (S.M.A.R.T)
Who's the manufacturer of your HDD, when did you buy it? Did you do a CHKDSK?

thanks all following the advice seems to have resolved the issue.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
