Windows Version on Desktop

Does anyone know how to get rid of the Windows Version pasted on the desktop. It seems it only appeared after I installed Tweak-UI for xp. Is there a way to hack the registry to safely get rid of it ?

All input is appreciated...

If you think it was TweakUI then open it and uncheck the last checkbox under 'General' : 'Show Windows Version on Desktop'

I did just that but i find that in Tweak UI the "show windows version on desktop" isn't even checked.

So checking it does nothing, and toggling it off and on doesn't help either...

What now ?

Ok have u installed a leaked beta of WMP9? Also did you install one of the early version of the SP?

I have installed "wmp9.2601.exe" after that, "xp-erience_wmp_9_Corona.rar" > "mpsetup.exe" then "wmp9fix.exe"

I installed all those b/c I know that 1 of them is the new wmp9 skin- I hate the look of wmp8 and lower.

I never installed a beta of Service Pack 1. I waited it out, so is there a fix for this?

-Not long ago someone told me where it was to delete an entry in the registry, after I rebooted it was gone. But I can't remember where that is.

Yes there is a registry entry that u need to delete, but at the present time I don't remember which one it was. I'm also sure that somebody else on here knows but if not I'll keep looking

It will be probably dissapear if you install the newest version of WMP9 (still beta) from Microsoft.
If not go to start, run, type in: certmgr.msc
and press enter, expand 'Trusted Root Certification Authority', highlight 'Certificates', find on the right side 'Microsoft Test Root Authority', delete it and reboot. (found on Blink's site not tested myself)

Ok and what about Windows Messenger popping up after I load up Microsoft Outlook. I even told windows to delete it. For some reason it is still here popping up everytime Outlook loads. If I try exiting it out it says programs that are running are using features that Windows Messenger provides, please try closing them before closing Windows Messenger. Hmm, wiered I don't see any of the listed program running... (Outlook, Outlook Express, MSN Explorer, and Internet Explorer) Hmmm nope none of them running yet I still can't exit out of Windows Messsenger which is in my systray and won't stop appearing! GDaMMiT MiCRO$HiT !!!

MESSENGER SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How do i get rid of it! =)

Click the Search icon.

and you will find that all your questions have been answered about 6 - 10 times already.

You might think that would be a good idea - but i've done just that buddy boy- and have tried them all and found nothing that works so far.

On the second hand out of all the different ways I've heard, I simply ask again to hear the best method- not to be told to use a search button.

I don't know how old you are but I have a life, with little time to spare for searching when someone can just tell me the best method, or pointing me in the right direction.

That is what FORUMS! are FOR! =)

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
