I just reinstalled XP Home and activated it. I tried to use the Windows Update web site but it will not work. I don't have auto-updates on because i like to decide when i get updated.

i get the same error every time i try to use the update wed page:
Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot display the requested page.

Send error number to Microsoft (0x800A138F)

is there something wrong with my system?

Did you let Microsoft send down the ActiveX script type thingy
that it prompts you to when you first hit the update site?

If it didn't appear, check you have nothing stopping that type of file.
I'm not certain it's an active X download, but it's something like that ...

Edit:- Found this....Cannot view updates using SSL

make sure theres a default language installed in internet options 🙂

the problem was solved by going to https rather than http. thanks for all the help.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
