Windows Update site not working

I have just re-installed Windows XP on my machine and now I am unable to run the Windows Update. I am able to access the site and then get prompted to install the updater and then when I click on Scan for Updates. I get to the following screen where is shows the percentage and it just sits a 0% or 25% and nothing else happens. HELP PLEASE !!!!!. This worked fine before the re-install. I have installed JVM and am still having problems. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Try this:

Windows Update - Error

If you cannot update XP check your c:\windows\windows update.log. If you have this error: Error 0x800C0008 then go to Tools\internet options\languages. You must have one language selected. Boom windows update works again!

Still not working for me. Didn't have that error, but selected english as language anyway...

Found this at another site:

"Seems eather my copie of xp has me going to http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp when it it should or has been change to https://v4windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp. "
