Windows Update Errors

I am having some problems with with my windows update. I go to the update page and it says that most of them are already downloaded, but when I go to click install it says 'error- failed to install the following files .. etc .. please click install again to retry' and I do that to no avail. I was wondering if anyone could help me out here. How can I get around this to get these updates installed .. some are critical updates even. Where are these files stored on my hd .. cause it says they are allready downloaded .. if I delete those files and redownload them, maybe it will work, but I cant seem to find where they are stored. If anyone could help that would be a huge help. Thanks!

I have had this happen, too, in the past. Try shutting all programs down (including the ones in your system tray) and disable any antivirus protection and personal firewall. Try that and let us know.
