Windows timing out?

I have had this problem ever since having Windows XP.

An example of this problem is say if I'm running a virus scanning program and scan my hard drive, when I move the mouse the program does not update onscreen, instead it continues scanning but I cannot see the progress i.e the programs viewable state freezes.

Ths usually happens around 5 seconds after starting the scan or whatever it is.

Happens with most programs too.

is there a fix?

sounds like a driver problem to me, what vid card u got, and have u updated the drivers?

Cannot be a driver issue.

Look at my sig for my system specs

It happens on my old PC too which has an old ATi Rage 128.

My drivers are Detonator 29.42.

No Beta crap for me.
