[Windows] Open Source Software.

Like it's been stated in the old thread, http://sourceforge.net is a great place to get Open Source software.

What is Open Source Software?

The basic idea behind open source is very simple: When programmers can read, redistribute, and modify the source code for a piece of software, the software evolves. People improve it, people adapt it, people fix bugs. And this can happen at a speed that, if one is used to the slow pace of conventional software development, seems astonishing.

Oh and should this not be moved to the Applications forum?

Any VPN software Freeware, open source out there? I am looking for a good one.

Windows XP has a simple, basic VPN already built-in using RRAS.
Do you need something more configurable?

Using XP Home for VPN server.

I did see the wizard for it, and did try to configure it, but I had a great deal of trouble configuring the passwords part. Thought I'd try freeware instead.

Can't get UltraVNC to work :( I opened up ports 5800 and 5900 (the ports UVNC uses) at my home computer, UVNC client on my shcool computer makes a connection, I see the desktop, but I can't do anything. The mouse arrow doesn't move, just stands still, I can't click anything. Back to Remote Desktop Connection for me.

Have you set the server to allow remote-control ? I believe that it's disabled by default.

Aren't they going to charge for it once it reaches v1.0 though? or are they going to change that?

I know that they got booted off sourceforge for not being truly open source..

i'm not sure what there gona do, i cant really see them changing anything major compared to what it is now

Slapping a price tag on a free product is a major change ;) Surely they'll make the preference side of things more accessible. They may no charge for it after-all though, I guess we'll see.

X-Chat still owns it though ;)
