Windows Media Player Problem?

Everytime I try to play a WMV file with Windows Media Player (Ver 11 or earlier) it causes my system to crash and reboot.

- Windows XP Pro
- ASUS P5KC MB
- ASUS EN8600 GT Video Card
- Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreame Audio
- 2G RAM

I've downloaded all the updates Microsoft will give me. Reinstalled Windows Media Player 11. Updated drivers for sound, video and MB Bios. Reinstalled DirectX. I've run spyware/virus scans. Everything seems to be good.

I just built this system back in December and it has been doing this for about the past month.

Any suggestions as to what could be going on?

Thanks.

Additional info:

I installed Winamp and I still got the blue screen of death and immediate reboot trying to play a WMV file in Winamp.

Looks like MPG files cause the crash too.

What the heck is going on?

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
