A couple of thoughts; you could try to stop WMI and then restart it (Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services - scroll down to WMI and stop the service, (probably reboot) and then restart. You could also run SFC /scannow from Start>Run. You will need your XP CD for this, but it will reset any corrupted or missing files and I would think that may do it.
Wait! Go to the Computer Management console and open the Indexing Serivce tree. Then right click "WMI Serivce" and click the backup tab. Click restore and follow the instructions
system restore was off cos i had the msblast virus. The fixing tool for this virus requires system restore to be off and i forgot to turn it on again. Thanks you guys for your replies
