Windows 98 Blue Screen of Death error

I hate Blue Screen of Death screens. I get this error with a cd or dvd present in the optical drive.

An exception 0E has occurred at 0028:587390C1 in VxD ---. This was called from 0028:C182DB58 in VxD scs1hlp(03) + 00000508. It may be possible to continue normally.

Its been a while, for a win98 question.. wow

well after doing so searching it could be many things...

according to a large percent of what I found. its one of the things I have listed.

if you have a old running 98. and are using a DVD/CDrom drive
its a corrupt Virtual Driver for the drive caused by Adaptec EZ CD Creator. ( thats if you are using that software)

I also got the same problem after installing Adaptec EZ CD Creator 4.0 Deluxe! I uninstalled it, but the problem remained. I renamed C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\IOSUBSYS\SCSI1HLP.VXD to .....SCSI1HLP.VXDx and the problem went away (so far). This file seems to be a Virtual Device driver. Windows 98 uses a generic driver for CD ROMs, and maybe this file was affected somehow. I doubt that this is a permenent fix. Let me know if someone finds a more permanent solution.

Ah, well I'll see if can find that file. Though also need to figure out if the original video card is good or bad, and its royal pain in 16bit color. Truth be told its been a wahile since I messed with a Win98 system myself.
