which internet provider?

Comcast or AT&T? I know they're both trying to control the industrialized world ... do you folks have opinions?

I'm considering using the Google wifi, but it's not steadily reliable. (It's free, so I'm not complaining, but if I'm using the service for work and school. ...)

TIA

I have Comcast, never had an issue. If its speed go with Comcast, I have friends and family who had at&t and could not stand the service. and it was slow. but hey try

http://www.dslreports.com/search and check out other ISP's in your area and check the reviews. :)

Comcast is cable while AT&T is DSL. DSL speeds do not go as high as cable except for FIOS which is only in limited areas.

I dumped DSL a long time ago for cable.

Reason: Speed for the price. :)

Cable package with phone is the way to go. We get phone, net, and HD cable with DVR fo $99 a month.

wow ... a so-far unanimous opinion!!!

Speed of DSL hasn't been an issue for me so far, but it does seem appropriate since I'm going to work for a company that specializes in edge routers to support the home team.

I see that they're offering a special deal right now. I'll have to check it out :)

Thanks guys!

May also get the job to pay for it, most (including mine) do :)

Cable is better. Until fios is more wide available.

Cable is better in speed and bang for your buck. With dsl, if your telephone line deterriorates at all, you will see a noticeable drop in speed (it happens more of then than you think.)

Is comcast still not allowing bittorrent downloads and if so does that affect companies like blizzard who update there games using a bittorent method?

I say go with Comcast. But I am Biased as I work for a Cable Provider.

Comcast had fantastic speeds for me, but I'm out of the area now and can't get it. When I moved away form california, I was getting 8Mbps for less than $50 a month.

I heard they're trying to cap downloads for some users. The "fuzzy limit" is somewhere around 300 GB in a month from the rumors I've heard.

I have actually inquired about that recently and was told they don't necessarily look at traffic volume, more so what you download. I was told that if you are downloading excessive amounts of data, they then look into the content of what that data is. For instance, I will soon need to be doing near the 300GB/month for business, and have a document in writing that my service will not terminate as a result without a written warning if it exceeds that by too far.

This makes sense. Most of my downloading is from usenet anyway...it seems the people that get struck are the ones that draw attention from lawyers (bittorrent users). A friend of mine (a real friend, not me being the "friend" :)) got a call from his ISP telling them to delete a movie they downloaded from a torrent site.

I download through torrents all the time and never have any issues with Comcast. The people who do are probably seeding multiple torrents for days or weeks. I do my share then cut the torrent off.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
