Which hard drive should I get?

lol..i own 2 maxtors but when i get a new hd in the future (maybe in 4months) im gonna go with the seagate barracudas!
In 4 months I'm sure they'll be something new(better?) out. :p

You should get a SATA drive with 16MB buffer. Check http://www.newegg.com If my damn computer would accept SATA as primary without the use of drivers I would install it as my primary. You have to have a floppy drive to install the drivers if you plan on using a SATA drive as your primary (in most cases).

IMHO unless you have a build in SATA controller at this point in time it's not worth the trouble. The technology is new and the speed increase right now is something you probably won't even notice. In time though it has great speed potential once HD makers can make faster drives that can actually use SATA's bandwidth. :)

Maxtor Diamond Max +9 200GB UDMA133/7200 8MB Cache 6Y200P0

Is exactly what I have on my Linux system. 2 of them in fact. It's working great. I've had them for a few months and I store everything on them. It's a great deal. Maxtor is a pretty good company. In fact, if a company makes hard drives, they must be capable. The only thing you'll have to worry about is getting a hard drive from a bad batch ... which does happen from time to time. I've had Maxtor for years now. I haven't had any other brand since my 540MB Seagate.

I just got 2 x 160Gig SATA seagate Cuda's gotta say go with the Cuda's

I own maxtors and WD's no troubles just the seagates are 5 year's gotta respect that.

But who is going to really care when in two or three years you will have a new PC?

I prefer Maxtors. But just my humble opinion.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
