Which CPU?

1GHz isn't enough for you? What you want to play games/video editing or somthing on your laptop?

machine is really slow especially if you have many progs installed on the thing.
also, it's only got 256 ram... would like to have a bit more of it.

seen as it is for a laptop then power consumption considered go for the Centrino

I would definetly go with Intel P4 3GHz

so would I if I was planning on getting a desktop replacement that was going to spend most of its life plugged in. Seriously, if you want a portable computer that you can actually use while you're on the go, the new Centrino-based laptops own, especially if you can find one that has the new Dothan Pentium M's. I'm kinda partial to the new voodoo laptops, but they're a bit pricey. Nice though.
