Hi guys,

This is totally legit I assure you. I've just inherited an old PC off my uncle which has an OEM copy of XP Home on it. I have the sticker on the side of the case with the serial etc but unfortunately my uncle lost the disc years ago so I have no way to reinstall it. The only copy of windows XP I have is XP Pro or a Dell edition of XP Home OEM. Can I wipe the HD and install either of these and then use the serial from the side of the box? If not, is there anywhere I can download a copy of XP Home OEM (but use the legit licence I have?)

Cheers, reps for any help.

Ray

I looked there and I couldn't find an OEM copy of home, just full versions. Will these work? Will any version of home from another country work?

I encountered a similar situation. My laptop i bought a few years back only came with a restore partition and no media with OS on (XP Home). I did manage to find a torrent of XP Home OEM, used my own legit OEM Key to install and activate.

The manufacturer bundled so much slow down rubbish with the PC that it was easier to download all of the required drivers, and then format. I know a lot of people do this with shop bought PC's etc.

I have done the same with my new laptop, it came with Vista Home Premium OEM, again with bundled rubbish, i formatted, used my Vista Ultimate RETAIL DVD (downloaded) and activated that too (even though it was the retail DVD).

Good Luck.

Cheers guys, I'll have a go with the torrents. I'll let you know how I get on!

You can use the Dell OEM copy to reinstall. The Product Key will work. You will just have C:\Dell created which can be deleted afterwards.

Here's what you can do to bypass that.

Copy the I386 folder off of the installation disc. Delete the three files that begin with "!*.cab" (I don't remember the names of the files but they do begin with a "!" and have a cab extension).

You will need to extract the BIN file and copy over "WIN51", "WIN51IC", and "WIN51IC.SP2".

ANd just because I like you I zipped up the BIN file and attached it.

So. You should have the following on your CD.

X:\I386\
X:\WIN51
X:\WIN51IC
X:\WIN51IC.SP2

I am certain you know how to make a bootable CD. If not, ask. Make sure you set emulation to none and the loaded sectors to "4".

Or I can download the torrent for you and let you fetch it from my 100mbit ftp server :)

Hi guys,

I've got it all sorted now, the torrent had precicely what I needed. I've installing it now so we'll soon see if it all works. Thanks for your help guys, reps have gone out.

Chickened out on making your own? Tsk, tsk. =]

Hehe well I was already half-way through downloading when I read your post so I thought I might as well leave it - that's a great tip though, very handy for the future :) Thanks!

Hi there - you people may just be my salvation...

Earlier today I foolishly destroyed my XP installation somehow (cleaning up a bit too drastically methinks!), but I lost the disc a long time ago. Luckily, I have the product key, (extracted with the quite wonderful "produkey" program) and just need the XP home OEM disk image to get myself on the road again.

What a good job I have a laptop! This would have been a nightmare otherwise! Anyone got a good source for such an image?

This is not a warez forum.. as mentioned in our Forum Guidelines
Warez
Warez is an internet term used to describe software, film, music and data piracy. Any information relating to piracy activities is strictly forbidden from this site.
This rule is not limited to warez, but also includes "keygens" and "cracks", including how to obtain or install them. This can include information on how to bypass, circumvent any software or operating system’s security protocols.

While you may have a legitimate key, as a new member, not many people know you here and can vouch for your sincerity/authenticity.

If what you say is true, all the info you might need is already in this thread for you to read. As mentioned earlier, there are copies floating around out there on the Internet. You can also use any disk (including finding a friend with a computer that still has their disk) and use your legit key with their CD.
