What firewall and virus scanner are you using?

I'm currently running NOD32 virus scanner and the nvidea firewall and im not that happy with either of them.

outpost has an excelent software based solution. nVidia's solution is better as it is hardware based so stick with that.

NOD32 is the best AV solution on earth (you could also use kaspersky as it's rated the same). you should not use any other solution.

Note: re-reading this it seems harsh but its not intended to be so plese mind the sharp edges :D

Try Avast, one of the first x64 compatible anti virus programs and its free.

I don't think outpost runs on x64, ot at least theres not a specific version designed to

does anyone have any links for these antivirus options for x64?

thanks guys

i was looking for the link for nod32!

i'll give you rep!

I'm glad I came across this forum, as 64 bit info is relatively new technology and info is hard to find.

Outpost crashed on my x64 machine with an error blaming the OS, emailed support and was informed they are working on a 64 bit compatible version. I like Avast VS so far but I'm skeptical of anything too easy.

As far as a firewall I just set Windows' firewall to "Don't Allow Exceptions" and opted to go with this site to kill a few unnecessary and unsafe Windows services (except Windows Audio service- killed my sound). Combined with a 16 character, full char set password that even my best rainbow table hasn't cracked, and shutting down the pc when not in use prevents effective brute force pwd attacks. Tightening down security under the Local Security Policy utility in Administrative Tools makes it even more difficult to manipulate your pc maliciously.

I've emailed all the companies I need 64 bit drivers from and all seem promising. Except, Abit offered an x64 driver for my motherboard and it wouldn't install, went all of 99%, paused, then uninstalled. I would be interested to hear what others are doing to secure their new Xp x64 machines, and what other cool software people are finding for x64.

THats quite a usefull link there trukknann. THats better than blackvipers services list.

i am still waiting for my copy of x64 - should be here soon - i shall post a full list of my problems (as long as i can still access the internet) once i do.

i have around 99% of everything i need to change - the only item that is letting me down is drivers for my damm wireless network - apart from this i am good to go!

P.S. Thanks for the links people - appreciate it!

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
