What to do if you forget the XP logon password?

 I hope this question hasn't been addressed already as I searched the forums and didn't find anything about it.

A friend phoned me last night because XP Pro was prompting him to change his password at boot-up time. The problem is that he doesn't remember the password he put in when he installed XP.

Is there a way, short of reloading XP, to either turn off the password prompt or to reset the password to nulls?

His XP install is using the FAT32 file system.

Is it forcing him to change the password, or can he get past that and XP loads?

If it is just asking him to change the password, he can disable that, with

Start > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Local Users > Users > look for his user name in right panel > right click it > Properties > check Password never expires

Good luck

It is forcing him to change the password. If he selects 'Cancel', XP displays the Welcome screen and stops.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
