I am trying to install windows xp from the harddrive. For some reason everytime I try to install from the rom it freezes up. So i installed 98 and then copied the i386 folder to the c drive and then ran install. Everything worked great!!!!!!! Love it.

Anyway. I was hoping someone could tell me what are the commands to copy the i386 folder in dos so i do not have 98se stored on the drive. I prefer a clean install.

Please tell me how to do this. Step by step. Please be detailed. I was raised in a gui generation. lol.

Thanks for your time. Very much appreciated.

Thank you I will check that out!

This is all I am waiting for and I complete this mess I begun.

I remember back in the day, there was a cool explorer type app called Xtree Gold...l33t.

cd d: (cd rom)
cd winnt\i386
xcopy *.* c:\i386 or winxp whatever you want to call it...
oh shit xcopy is not on win98 floppy try just copy should work fine.

copy will not copy files from any subfolders. You should beware, too, that since you installed this way, there's a good chance your file system is FAT32 rather than NTFS, which can affect what you do with XP, depending on your level of skills with networking, etc.
/Lactic

to add what latic said just copy xcopy to a floppy then proceed then once xp is installed just convert to ntfs

type help at the command prompt for a nice list of the commands type help <xxcommandxx> to get help for a particular command

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
