What is an upgrade, the installation or the installation cd? if the CD is an upgrade version, it will be looking for the windows directory, I believe. you might be able just to install DOS first, and then upgrade from there. Other than that, you will have to install W3.1 first ... (and I am not even going to ask why you would want to install W95)

atleast install 98 its way better, so much more stable :p

Good site, Ryandor, but I believe amphrodite was looking for a way to do a clean install of W95 using a W95 upgrade CD (which means he/she needs W3.1 or ?DOS? installed, first)...

Which is why I posted it. There's some info in that page that is related.
....Now make a special "system builder" DOS bootable (Format a: /u /s) diskette with the following files in the following directories:
A:\COMMAND.COM (placed there when you format the floppy)
A:\CONFIG.SYS (see Footnotes)
A:\AUTOEXEC.BAT (See Footnotes)
A:\XFER.BAT (see Footnotes)

A:\WIN31\WIN.COM (Fools Win95 upgrade into thinking Win31 is installed)
A:\WIN31\SYSTEM\WIN386.EXE (Fools Win95 upgrade that Win31 is installed)....
This is part of the info you'll need to get the upgrade to install without having a previous version. Where you get the actual files, matters not. But at at least you know which files you need. As it is, I consider this a gray area of discussion (for NTFS at least) which was why I was rather vague.
If it's no help, it can at least point the way.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
