Vista Windows Update Gone !!!

The windows update has disappeared from services, i've tried a system restore to a known good configuration, but it's still not there. I've run various malware programs, but they do not find a problem.

Vista Home Premium SP1
Can anyone help?

Still the same. Windows Update is red with a code 80070424
