Vista Icon Sorting Nightmares

Is it just me, or is it an absolute nightmare to have consistent icon sorting in Vista? My biggest problem is that Vista seems to think it knows how to sort my icons better than me, and will flat out change my sorting settings on a folder to whatever it wants, or makes viewing by details a pretty nonsensical experience by adding a bunch of crap columns and removing the one column, "Date Modified," that I consistently want! In pretty much every instance, I hate it.

Is there something I'm doing wrong? Is there some setting I can change to stop this stupid behavior?

Vista seems to change the viewing type for me in Folder. One day I open up downloads and they are all Extra Large Icons, one day its Lists...and so forth. Can't figure it out.

I have never seen or heard anyone having your issue, it's quite weird.

I used method 2 on the above link, which is a .reg file. Save and then double click to import to the registry. It has worked for me and since i have no resets of views.

Just a thought, hope it helps.

It's not just vista that's affected, most previous versions of windows are too, just not noticed this frequently.
