Virtual Memory problem

For some reason XP is flashing up a warning telling me that my Virtual Memory is too low. I have checked my settings and manually set the virtual memory to 450MB but, XP still keeps flashing up this warning. Any ideas as to why?? My system has 328MB of physical memory in.

it's cause windows recommends 1-1/2 times your physical ram, are you running any programs when this happens? cause if the virt memory keeps getting low a program must be leaking into it.

Sort of. I am playing Championship Manager 01/02 at the moment and it sometimes seems to pop up when I exit the game. This is the other weird thing-it doesn't do it all the time. I will up my virtual memory settings and see how I go. Thanks as well for taking the time to reply-much apreciated.

if you look in the [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management]key, you'll see the 'SystemPages' DWORD Value set to something around 500 MB (more accurately, 524288 (KB), or something close to that value). Simply reduce the value to something around 128 MB (131072 KB) or 256 MB (262144 KB). Personally, I'm using the 128 MB setting, since my total RAM is 256 MB.

Try a few of them settings , may help you.

Actually, I have exactly the same problem. I have 640 meg of sd ram (my motherboard doesnt support ddr). i have changed my settings to 1.5 times of my physical ram, and when i do that, my computer slows down BIG TIME, were talking minutes to load explorer, 30 - 40 seconds to bring up already open windows, like the start button or an already open explorer window...

BUT if i change the settings to no page file, my computer is fine.
any ideas whats going wrong with my setup?

Pagefile problems can also be attributed to slow disk performance and fragmentation. Errors can be generated when disk space falls below a certain level. Even though the OS says you have X amount of space left, you may be pushing up against the limit of true allocated space. Make your page file static by making the initial and maximum size the same and roughly equivelant to your physical RAM. Move the page file to a second drive if you have one and defragment often.

thanks for the tip. ill try moving the page file to d drive...the operating systems on the c drive.. in terms of fragmentation i defrag often enough for that to be an unlikely source of the problem
im using a 61 gig maxtor 5400rpm drive. and have 7.75 gig free on c and 10.7 on d.

ill repost back with results!
