Does anyone knows a solution for the error message
windows cannot load the registry hive systemroot\system32\config\software
it is missing or corrupted

something in c:\windows\system32\config/software is corrupted. Not for sure if it will help, run a scan disk and have it fix any errors it finds. see if that helps.

No scandisk in XP and chkdsk will not solve the problem. I'd do a reinstall of XP with the repair option.

could also try running "sfc /scannow"

You can install XP OVER XP too, this allows you to keep your programs and data in tact, and fix the problems in the files.. I just did it yesterday, treat it like an UPGRADE to WIN XP... works great.
